Travels with a Donkey in the Cevenne

Stevenson was called to the Scottish bar in 1875, but instead of practicing law Stevenson he himself to writing travel sketches, essays, and short stories for magazines. Travels with a Donkey in the Cevenne, his popular description of a 12-day trek with a recalcitrant donkey, Modestine, in the Cevennes Montains of France was published in 1879.
